COURSE DESCRIPTION

SPANISH 1

Introduces the student to the basic pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary of the Spanish language, and provides extensive opportunity for oral and written expression with the intention of developing conversational and compositional skills. Students are placed in situations where they use the target language in a variety of activities practicing the four core skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Students are also exposed to the culture of the Spanish-speaking world focusing on cultural lessons about holidays, celebrations and history.

SPANISH 2

Expands the study of grammar, vocabulary and cultures of Spanish- speaking countries. Level 2 begins with a thorough review of level 1 and continues to further develop and improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.  Through this integrated approach, students will participate in a. practical application of vocabulary, grammar, and culture. Culture is presented in a deeper context to expand on a personal level by comparing and contrasting Spanish cultures and customs.

SPANISH 3

Expands the student’s knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical expression. Reviewing content from levels1 and 2. Students are encouraged to use the target language as a tool to accomplish a specific purpose (function) in a particular setting (situation) about a particular subject (topic). Students practice four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and creatively use the target language to communicate meaningfully and creatively for real-life purposes. Students are also exposed to Culture and directly compare and contrast cultures, customs and languages.
